UNP lawyers express concern

Lawyers attached to the UNP want to clear some matters with regard to the appointment of President’s Counsel, party sources said yesterday.

Accordingly, sources said some lawyers attached to the party have questions as to why President Maithripala Sirisena had appointed President's Counsel twice this year.

They are generally appointed once every year but he appointed 25 at the beginning of this year and 21 again this month. The legal fraternity is confused by this move, sources said.

Sources added that the UNP affiliated National Lawyers Association have been asked to look into the matter. (Yohan Perera)
