Discussions were held today to commence direct flights between Colombo and Lumbini, Nepal for the convenience of Sri Lankan pilgrims visiting the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

The discussion in this regard was held between Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and Nepal Ambassador Bashu Dev Mishra at the Ministry.

During the discussion, the Ambassador requested to extend flights already in operation between Colombo and Nepal’s Capital Kathmandu, up to Lumbini.

He said that the proposed extension of flight services would be a great convenience for Sri Lankan pilgrims.

“A large number of Nepalis were willing to visit Sri Lanka and the extended route from Colombo to Lumbini would further strengthen the long-standing friendship and bilateral relations between the two countries,” the Ambassador said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
