Suspect arrested for stealing over Rs.27Mn cash from leading apperal store in Kadawatha

A suspect hiding on the roof of a leading apparel outlet in Kadawatha arrested by police with the Rs. 27 million of stolen cash in his possession, police said.

They said a complaint has been lodged with the Kadawatha Police on Friday regarding the theft of over Rs. 27 million stored in a safe at the apperal store in Kadawatha.

Police said the suspect had broken into the safe using a drill machine. Investigations revealed that suspect was unable to flee the building as some employees of the store had returned to the store.

The Kadawatha Police arrested the suspect while he was hiding in a water tank on the top floor of the apperal store building and recovered Rs. 27,219,380 stolen money.

The arrested suspect aged 32 years old is identified as a resident of Nagollagama.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Mahara Magistrate's Court today.(DSB)
