The Sri Lanka Transport Board's (SLTB) special long distance buses will be on the roads from today to facilitate the holiday makers to return to Colombo from the major cities after the Sinhala-Tamil New Year seasonal holidays.
SLTB Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka said the number of buses scheduled for yesterday could not be operated as the SLTB bus crew members were on New Year leave.
However, about 300 long distance buses have been assigned to run today.
Meanwhile, he said arrangements have been made to provide diesel from filling stations belonging to SLTB depots for long distance private buses to bring people back to the main cities.
Accordingly, private buses can obtain diesel from the special centres established at the Multi Modal Centre and at designated SLTB depots island wide.
However, long-distance buses will run as per the scheduled normal time table, Ranawaka said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
