Police barricade several roads in Colombo due to protest march

Several roads towards the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo have been barricaded by the Police this morning due to a scheduled protest march by the  Inter University Students Federation today. 

It was reported that Lotus Road in Colombo had been completely barricaded by the police.

Also, protestors have been barred from entering Chaitya Road and Janadhipathi Mawatha from NSA Roundabout, York Street from Ceramic Junction, from G.O.H. Junction to Bank road, Ceramic Junction to NSA.

Meanwhile, the Fort Police had requested the court to issue an order to stop the protest march as it could cause damage to state property.

However, the Colombo Magistrate rejected the request and had stated that he could not issue orders to prevent an upcoming protest.

The IUSF protest march is scheduled to begin at 11.00 am today near the Fort Railway Station.
