Man arrested with a statue of a queen carved in ivory

A man was arrested at Palabaddala in Ratnapura today for attempting to sell an ivory statue of a queen through social media for Rs. 5 million, the STF said.

According to information received by the STF officers from the Mullaitivu camp, an STF team led by CI Nadeeka Silva arrested the 46-year-old suspect from Palabaddala, Ratnapura.

The STF said the statue carved out of ivoryan is 11-inches-tall and is over 1.5kg in weight.

The suspect was handed over to the Siripagama Police Station for further investigations. (DSB)
