Colombo, March 2 (Daily Mirror) - Cabinet approval has been granted to establish a regional office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Vavuniya, Northern Province, where several districts of Sri Lanka are located.
Addressing the media, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, stated that residents of Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts currently spend considerable time travelling to the Vavuniya regional office to obtain immigration and emigration-related services.
Given the high number of passport applications from residents of the Northern Province, it was proposed at the Jaffna District Coordination Committee meeting, chaired by the President on January 3, 2025, that a regional office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration be established in Jaffna as well. This initiative aims to provide a faster and more convenient service to the people in the region.
