With the present protests at the Galle Face Green, the current government is likely to lose its majority in a few days' time and form a new government, Former Governor and President's Counsel Maithri Gunaratne said while addressing a meeting at Galle today.
He said owing to this continous protest, the finance minister who was involved in fraud had resigned, the Central Bank (CB) governor, Finance Ministry Secretary too have resigned, and all communities have reunited and showing that the opposition had gone into deep slumber.
Moreover, he said the protestors had stated the impeachment motion to be filed by the opposition.
"The work which the government and the opposition have been unable to do, has been done by the protestors quite successfully," Gunaratne said. First of all, a new government should be formed, and later a new prime minister and a new cabinet should be appointed, he said.
The government deploys its people and the police to stop these struggle. Gunaratne said the government is making various attempts to sabotage the struggle initiated by the people. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
