Gen. Shavendra Silva’s term extension legitimate: Defence Ministry

The Ministry of Defence yesterday denied social media reports that incumbent Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva is holding the present appointment without legitimate service extension.

The Ministry said that the service extension granted to Gen. Silva is still valid and it was effective from December 31, 2021.

The Army chief was appointed as the 23rd Commander of the Sri Lanka Army on August 17, 2019 by the then President Maithripala Sirisena.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
