Five trains run during strike; evening trains doubtful: Railway Dept.

Five trains operated this morning during the ongoing 24-hour Railway Trade Union (TU) Action, Media Spokesman of Sri Lanka Railways A.D.G. Seneviratne said.

He told the Daily Mirror that three trains were running on the main line and two on other lines.

More than 200 trains take the track daily from and to the Fort Railway station.

He also expressed doubt about the trains in the evening due to the strike by most of the state, semi government and other sector employees.

The railway employees, especially the locomotive drivers have abstained from work, mostly on sick leave and did not report to work.

Hence, the commuters have been requested to use alternative transport modes.(Chaturanga Samarawickrame)
