Pohottuwa Diyawanna members are said to be much agitated over the Number One’s move to fully implement the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.
They have reportedly taken up the position that a record 6.9 million voters gave a mandate to the former Number One against the devolution of power and that mandate is valid for the incumbent Number One who only took over office from the former one. So a large majority of Diyawanna members are said to have already decided to oppose the move when it comes up in the council, for they fear that it would destroy the future of their party!
This opposition to the proposed move is said to be spearheaded by a Diyawanna member who initially contested from Ampara and later shifted to Colombo!
These members are said to be saying that if they subscribed to the Number One’s move, they would not be able to go back to their electorates again!
So, they are in readiness to defeat the move if it is brought to the Diyawanna council, they say.
