‘Putha’ becomes ‘Sahodaraya’!’

The young member from the Ruhuna royal family had always been ‘Putha’ to the JO senior, the Colombo District ‘tuition master’.

The young royal offspring had got a jolt the other day when the JO senior hailed him saying, “Ah! Sahodaraya! How are you?”

For a moment the young man had looked on speechless, puzzled as to why the Guru had suddenly changed the endearing term of address, ‘Putha’ to ‘Sahodaraya’. 

The other group members too were visibly surprised to hear the young man being addressed as ‘Sahodaraya’. 

An awkward silence ensued and a talkative member from the Kandy area broke the ice. “Now Guru also has joined the youth circle!” he said.

Everyone greeted this sally with laughter.
