This Diyawanna politico, a former top team member, representing an area, which was once part of an ancient kingdom, heard that some villagers were staging a noisy protest demanding immediate action to keep off marauding wild jumbos destroying their paddies and other crops.
Thinking that the ongoing protest was an ideal opportunity to win the hearts and minds of his constituents, the politico had rushed to the scene.
However, the protesters’ reaction to his arrival had been just the opposite of what he expected; the crowd had turned restive and visibly hostile.
Nevertheless, he addressed the protesters in the silence that ensued his arrival.
“…I assure you here and now that we will put an end to your problem for good when we come to back to office…”
What the rest the politico said had drowned in thunderous boos that the crowd greeted his first few words. The politico had quietly sloped away as the crowd continued booing at him, they say.
