A security conference sans security chiefs

All government Diyawanna politicos met in Colombo in the wake of the Easter Sunday tragedy. And they decided they should take stock of the grave situation with the participation of the chiefs of all security services.

The invitations to all concerned including the opposition chief were sent out accordingly.

The conference was duly held with Number Two in the chair, but conspicuous by their absence at the deliberations were the defense secretary and the chiefs of the three services. The khaki department chief who failed to attend on time, showed up when the proceedings were underway.

Later Green party top men had made discreet inquiries to find out why the three security chiefs had failed to turn up at the vital conference to learn that they had got a fiat from a very high authority not to attend it!

However, the irony of the situation was that it was the absent security chiefs themselves who were called upon to carry out the security measures decided upon at this conference!
