It Is Quite Depressing

A A A

All of us were looking forward to enjoying some form of freedom on Monday, when all hopes were dashed with the extension of the travel restrictions.  Here we are stuck in our homes but the roads seem to be full of traffic. Add to that the rains are island wide and we hear of floods, landslides, people displaced, many cases of dengue and the virus still rampant.  In the newspapers and on social media are reports of hundreds of kilos of Heroin, Kerala Ganja and other opioids used as recreational drugs being seized nearly every day, which makes this Island seem a drug haven. People are scared to consume any sea-food with the number of dead sea mammals washing up on the shores as a result of the burning ship nine kilometers away from the shoreline.  To top it off we read of inhabitants in a two storey house relabelling expired medicines and tablets that must be distributed to pharmacies all over. Fortunately, the culprits were apprehended but how much damage has been done already is unknown.  Some margarines and oils that are for sale are on the suspect list for being dangerous and people do not buy them anymore. Add to this the messages that are floating around about how ineffective some of the vaccines are. The list is endless and everybody is just looking for some relief from all this gloom and doom.

Most are tired of binge watching movies and chatting on the telephone because there seems nothing to talk about any more other than for the same old depressing stuff;  even gossip does not seem to excite people anymore as everyone is just about fed up with all of the goings on here.  The monotonous daily lifestyle is getting on everyone’s nerves. A few people who have dual nationalities have decided to flee the country as they are now sure that the grass is greener on the other side. Lucky are those who have the resources and are able to do so. A dear friend who consults an astrologer constantly does not seem to have any good news to tell me. It is all chaotic and quite depressing and like everyone else I am longing to see the light at the end of this very black tunnel.
