Two men have been arrested by the STF with 349 kg of Kerala cannabis (ganja) which has a street value of more than Rs.50 million during raids in Jaffna and Kilinochchi on Friday.
The STF said 141 kg of cannabis smuggled from South India was recovered at a house at Allaippitti in Jaffna while another 208kgs of cannabis had been found at Vivekanandanagar in Kilinochchi. Two suspects aged 43 and 46 were taken into custody along with the haul of cannabis.
The STF also seized a car which was being used to transport and sell Kerala cannabis.
The suspects were handed over to the Kayts and Kilinochchi Police for further investigations.
It was revealed that the cannabis had been brought by Indian multi-day fishing trawlers and then passed on to local fishermen.
