Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis will be eligible to return to international cricket, after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) lifted the ban imposed on them for breaching bio-bubble protocols while on tour in Durham, England last year.

The players could return as early as next week for the ODI series against Zimbabwe, if they meet the required fitness standard and are selected in the final squad.

SLC said the decision to lift the suspension handed to them last July, was subsequent to a request made by all three players following the conclusion of the Lanka Premier League last month.

“Based on such request, Sri Lanka Cricket obtained a report from the Doctor, appointed by SLC to provide counseling for the 3 players during their period of suspension. Upon consideration of the said report submitted by the Doctor, the Executive Committee of the SLC decided at a meeting…to remove the suspension of the said three players,” an SLC media release read.

Though the ban has been lifted, it remains suspended for two years, which means any further infractions could result in a reimposing of the ban.

SLC said the conduct of the three cricketers will be closely monitored.

In addition to returning the international cricket, they will also be eligible for domestic cricket, the statement added.
