Over 5,000 frontline workers vaccinated within today; no side effects reported

A total of 5,286 individuals including healthcare officials have been vaccinated as at 7.00 pm this evening, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said.

He said the health staff and other frontline workers in COVID-19 prevention activities had attended very enthusiastically for the immunization programme.

“Any incidents with regard to side effects were not reported as of now and we will be carrying out the program all over the country tomorrow,” he said.

“We hope to immunize a large group of healthcare staff and other frontline workers in COVID- 19 prevention tomorrow,” Dr Samaraweera added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath told Daily Mirror that a total of 2,526 individuals including healthcare officials have been vaccinated as at 5.45 pm this evening.

 “We are monitoring a system where electronically certain data on details of the people who are getting the vaccine is entered and collected,” he said. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
