The substantial rise in COVID-19 patients within a day exceeding 900 cases is due to delays caused in laboratories for the last five days when issuing PCR tests results, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardana said.
“We are now clearing the backlog created in labs in issuing PCR tests results and several other issues, he underlined.
“Accordingly, a total number of 900 plus COVID-19 cases can be reported in next couple of days as well if it is to clear the backlog,” he added.
He said once the backlog is cleared, the number of positive cases rate would return to normal. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

What a nice explanation. If u look at the last few days numbers of cases for a day roughly 800. Then u mean it was more than that.

You are absolutely right. Govt. Authorities must ensure that once the PCR test is done until the test report received they must be isolated until such time. This will greatly help to reduce the spread.

Oh so now the increase in Covid numbers is due to the delays in labs .. If these stupid statements were made in another country you guys would be dragged on the streets

Are these like central bank figures. When the number of PCR or RAT increased can we expect more fancy figures.

What a stupid explanation, delay or not positive case is counted. So this is the right explanation to the surge in the numbers.

I have seen the Covid numbers varying due to delays in releasing results in USA an Canada where it takes 1 to 4 days. Definitely the numbers reported in Sri Lanka too could be higher or lower. No one could definitely say the exact number due to testing issues. It is only a handful of countries where testing is currently being done at an acceptable level.

I know you have to serve your political masters but get off your knees and do the right thing. Stop treating the people who pay your wages as idiots....we weren't born yesterday.
