A group of monks, priests and nuns today staged a protest in front of the Fort Railway Station against the increased electricity tariff. The religious leaders claimed that they were unable to pay the bills and would not pay the bills. Pix by Waruna Wanniarachchi

Stop using so much electricity religious places. Or maybe you're used to over luxurious use of electricity. Maybe those in the general public with extra money can start putting more for the religious places. However, as nation as whole, when religious place is just an optional extra (nice to do, but not at all essential), do does not need to subsidy for their excessive electricity use.

These are privileged citizens!! Foremost position in SL state?! These important, can't eat "Vavuseer", (Nurtured in village tanks for villagers!!), instead demand SEER (THORA) from OCEAN 100's of Kms away for Alms??!! Claim as servants of religion enjoying 'FOREMOST PLACE'??!! Right to Demand and granted - the citizens go without daily existence/essentials, but CARNIVAL of Foremost, COULD GO ON??? IMF, WORLD BANK, ADB, Chinese/Indians (recently bailed out) could 'wail' but provide the USD along with the much maligned West - Idiots!!

Good! Stop using. Do a favour for your country. Ask your bosses to switch off AC.(unfortunately DM don't allow posting photos of the outdoor units)

I don't want to pay your bills neither.

Shut down all those who think they need "special treatment'. The fact is they are not that special as they would like to imagine they are.

Contribution from Sabaragamuwa Dayakas’, have decided to contribute, to pay instead the Electricity Bill of the Temples in the area, by sacrificing A days’ FOOD Cost, in Sabaragamuwa to ensure the Temples are Lit up, 24 hours to promote the importance and significance of these temples?? How generous are the citizens to others trauma, Great sacrifice indeed by the Sri lankans of Sabaragamuwa??!! Exemplary action!! "Pin sidda wey”! Sensible decision than ‘Not paying bill for their excessive consumption’

'We do not care, Says the CEB as long as we get our perks'!!!
kumar Wednesday, 21 September 2022 06:53 AM
There shouldn't be a different treatment for religions places. If they use they should pay. The "Dayakayo" will pay. Why they are worried?
Kumar Wednesday, 21 September 2022 07:13 AM
What so special about V8s. I don't think CEB has the guts to de-light religious establishments for not paying their bill.
Sandy Wednesday, 21 September 2022 07:26 AM
Learn to a live a simple life , religious places are not factories to use too much electricity

Against subsidy for religion Wednesday, 21 September 2022 12:16 PM
@Food first religious place last The ex-MP Thero is a disaster. He was wanting for ending Aragalaya after they youths took over Presidents mansion and office. Maybe he would wish the Aragalaya youths would join in his cause but they will be against this outright asking for this in effect unfair low price for the Religious groups. Even if 10,000 die in the fight against this religious oppression, that is these religious groups asking for services which other pay for it will be worth it, as it will cause the mad MP who support the religious groups and religions to fall as well. Future generation don't need these relgious groups. Sri Lankan Buddhit Nikaya was introduced again to here from Siam/Thailand, and even if go extinct can re-introduced again even. Same for all the other religions here, they are from overseas, so even if they disappear can be brought back easy if there is actual benefit.
