Some factions in the government are engaged in a shameless attempt to gain the credit of securing the full-ownership of the East Container Terminal (ECT) of the Colombo port, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna said today.
JVP Politburo member Sunil Hadunnetti told a news conference that the Trade Unions and progressive people had to fight at the cost of their lives to protect the ECT.
“The TUs and people were able to force the government to withdraw its decision to hand over 49% of ETC's shares to an Indian Company after a great struggle. Ten parties affiliated to the government told a press conference recently that it was a victory of the government and the President to protect the ECT and they were thankful to the government and the President for that. They are talking as if the Trade Unions were trying to sell it and the government came forward to rescue it. It is so shameful that they are trying to gain the credit of securing ECT,” he said.
Mr. Hadunnetti said those so-called patriotic politicians were dumbfounded when the Cabinet Paper was presented to hand it over to Adani group and added that they were now trying to gain the credit when the move was defeated. (Ajith Siriwardana)

ok but don't twist your word when India starts to act against the government. 5 years later you will side with India not with the govt than fulfilled your demand.

Some say that China is funding the trade union protests. Some say JVP is funded by various countries from time to time on contract basis for creating some disturbances . Where is this money coming from if these stories were not true.

Not sure about this instance but Singapore funded a trade union action in colombo port when Lalith Athulathmudali was implementing his plans. Now the same people are pointing us Singapore and telling us that we are a failed state.

Ranaweera, If you have genuine love for your own country, you wouldn’t have asked the question. Even if the money had come from the devil, it was put to proper use to make Sri Lanka not to surrender its maritime assets to India. I could smell a rat.
