Around 50 SLPP MPs in a letter addressed to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene, requested him to stop providing lunch for MPs.
"We are of the opinion that supplying of lunch to MPs and Parliament staff comprising of a total of 900 individuals should be stopped forthwith. We remind you that people of this country cannot afford to buy food as a result of the economic crisis," the MPs said in their letter.
"We also request you to provide a lunch packet at the normal price which is being sold outside," the MPs added. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

Please include the fuel and various other allowances allocated to MPs too to be taken off as no other public service employee is getting that, yet they too have to travel!

Very Good Suggestions. Eat like the ordinary man. A lunch packet (poor man’s lunch packets) now costs around Rs 300/ = No more roast mutton, chicken and pork. Serve only Salaya fish with a little fried sprats and wattakka and pathologist, polsambola.

Great sacrifice at a time most of the home fire is lost and starving. These tactics will not work anymore.

Take your lunch from home just like others who go to work on a BBQ daily basis . This is a better suggestion. Only a cup of plain tea should be provided by parliament. Don’t forget you politicians are also government servants
