One soldier was killed and five others including a Major were injured when their cab vehicle crashed into a tree after hitting a three-wheeler on the A-20 Road at Rambewa in Anuradhapura last evening, police said.
Police said the reckless driving of the cab driver had caused the accident.
The injured were admitted to the Rambewa Hospital and later transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
The three-wheeler driver and a woman were also admitted to the hospital with injuries, the police said.
The deceased was identified as Dolamulla Kankanamlage Tharindu Sanjeewa (25), a soldier who was attached to the Mechanical Engineering Regiment at Saliyapura.
The driver of the cab vehicle had been arrested by the police at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
