It was decided at the Gampaha District Coordinating Committee not to allow any construction at the Muthurajawela Wetlands and to take over the plot of land said to be owned by a private faction.
The decision was taken at the District Coordinating Committee meeting held today with the participation of Western Province Governor Roshan Gunathilake, District Coordinating Committee Chairman MP Sahan Pradeep Vithana.
Committee Chairman Sahan Pradeep said that the plot of land owned by the private faction, would be taken over by the government and the Governor said the decision should be implemented by the police. No complaint is required for that.
It was also decided to take over the Forest Department lands captured by the private factions and to conserve them by erecting a protected fence.(Thilakarathne Dissanayake)

Decision regarding land ownership and illegal occupation should be a subject of the Central Government and not left to a district development council to decide and should be based on national policies and laws. What if the development council changes its mind later.
