Thousands of Britons irrespective of their status, are deeply saddened by the demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, waited in 12-hour long queues outside the Westminster Abbey to pay their last respects in the past ten days. Likewise, one man living thousands of miles away from Britain, mourning the death of the queen, was preparing to pay his last respects to his favourite monarch today.

A man, who has affectionately written to Queen Elizabeth II and her royal family for the past 32 years and even, had received their blessings and love as a loyal subject living in Sri Lanka.

Jinadasa Liyanage alias ‘Ahinsaka’ is reputed for being the owner of a mini museum, a personal collection of letters written to the royal family since the late 1980’s, replies he had received to them, royal certificates, royal invitations for gala events in the UK, special picture postcards of the queen mother and the queen, her son Prince Charles and Princess Diana, their children Prince William and family and Prince Harry and family, royal envelopes received from England and countless numbers of memorabilia. • Sri Lanka is becoming a valuable source for many international jokes Monday, 19 September 2022 10:35 PM

This story is a utter disgrace to Sri Lanka. He is a poor, uneducated pavement seller who could have equally and easily believed in anything from aliens landing in his village to zombies having a night dance behind his hut. So it happened this time he believed that the Queen is not human but a goddess sent from above. Why, what is in this man’s head is important to us in Sri Lanka.

Queen Bee that was what she was for the idiotic Subjects. Monday, 19 September 2022 11:57 PM

This man has been writing “love” letters to the Queen for 32 years while at the same time struggling to make ends meet as a pavememt hawker. If the Queen, who is the richest woman in the world, had any pity for this poor man , she could have easily helped him with just few thousand pounds to make him start any business. Oh No, the Queen doesn’t do any of those, she just sits in her multiple castles and palaces like a Queen bee unmoved by the poverty felt even by her loyal “ SUBJECTS”.

This comment and the above, show the class people who, the British left the ceylon to rule. We have become lower than a 3rd world nation, with deplorable people like these. These are the kind of people who have robbed the nation since independence and left a war torn broken nation. At least the queen has the decency to reply, do u think any of our politicians would gave him a time of day?

Bring back the monarchy, and go back to thw name ceylon. Ceylon can be the 15th realm of the commonwealth so that ceylon can have to the king as the head of state.

    Very touching

On Aljazeea online I watched an African Commonwealth leader say that when he visited England he and his wife was housed in an apartment in Buckingham Palace and the Queen told him that the silver was brought from Windsor castle by her for his visit. I also read when as president, Premadasa visited a function where JR Jayawardene was present those present was discourteous to Premadasa because of his caste. This is the difference between the civilised British and us who claim to have a 2500 year old civilisation

This man deserves a trip to the funeral. Not the one who wore a pair of jeans

What a great inspiration throughout his life...

    A loyalist.

Ranjith Anthick Tuesday, 20 September 2022 03:24 PM

As per the data available in the article, he had never requested for any help from the Royal family. Probably he must be a contended human with whatever income he receives from his earnings. "Queen Bee" in his comments critical without knowing any facts. Typical Sri Lankan style. Ranjith Anthick
