The staff of the Kurunegala Hospital had decided not to give evidence before the committee-which was appointed by Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne- to probe the allegations against Dr Siyabdeen  Mohamed Safi.

The decision had been conveyed in writing to the Hospital Director by the organization called “Organization to Protect Kurunegala Hospital”.

Spokesman for the Organization Dr Indika Ratnayake said they had no faith in the committee appointed by Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne.

He said however, they were ready to give evidence before a committee appointed by the President.

The committee which includes six members arrived at the hospital today but none of the hospital staff offered to give evidence before the committee.(Pushpakumara Jayaratne)

All we see is political games everywhere. This Committee should have had members from CID and Police to be impartial. Goal should be to punish the Dr if he was wrong and not gain political goals. SLMC should be behind the refusal definitely.

Send the health minister home. Should bring a no confidence motion against him.

We can’t allow the doctors to protect one of their own kind being accused of heinous crime. I think the CID should question all the doctors at this hospital. If they refuse to cooperate then all of them must be arrested.

Bad precedent. The President has to do everything - so disband Cabinet and save money. Thi is a GMOA move against Ministeer.
