Claiming that it was pointless being party to the government which was formed with Rajapaksas, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said today they were ready to react positively if a program was presented with a certain time frame to resolve the burning issues faced by the people.

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake in a reply letter to President Ranil Wickremesinghe's request to join an all-party-government said all-party or multi-party government formed by the present Parliament had no manadate or moral right to govern the country for a long period of time.

He said an opportunity should be given for a new mandate through an election to form a new government capable of finding lasting solutions to the economic crisis.

Mr. Dissanayake said the President Wickremesinghe had launched suppression on protesters by enforcing emergency regulations while inviting opposition parties to join an all-party-government and pointed out that they strongly objected such moves.

He said if there was a genuine intention to form an all-party-government, it should have been done with at least a short term action plan to the present crisis soon after former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left the country and added that the golden opportunity for such a move was missed out now.

Mr. Dissanayake said they as the National People's Power (NPP) presented a set of proposals which included appointing an MP who has no future political agendas as the President and a Prime Minister with the consent of all political parties in Parliament, appointing a small Cabinet representing all political parties in Parliament and hold a general election within six months to form a new government.

He said however, they could not meterialise their proposals as President Wickremesinghe formed a Ranil-Rajapaksa government after becoming the President with  the support of MPs loyal to Rajapaksas.

The JVP leader stressed the need to go for a general election to form a new government capable of resolving burning issues faced by the people. (Ajith Siriwardana)

NPP will ruin the country, Theses FACIST movement always destroyed the country down. NPP does not understand that DIVIDED we all fall. Its time we all unite to get out of this trouble. Our goverment sectors are failing because of NPP trade unions protesting all the time, We cant get any work done at a governemnent office. ALL lazy trade union members working. NPP cant run this country, THEY only know to protest. IF NPP wins, they might end up protesting against the people who voted them to parliament. #WeSayNoToFacism #WeSayNoToNPP

So true. There is continuous support by the Podujana MPs for Rajapaksas in parliament. Even the Energy Minister Kanchana invited Namal for his ideas.

    Cloy Thursday, 11 August 2022 06:19 PM

The jvp know nothing about governing the country but ablaze their political opponents, organize stricks, pasting posters country wide at any given time etc., so, inviting them to be a part of the govt is a waste of time.

    Kikazaru Thursday, 11 August 2022 06:25 PM

Well done the JVP. The only party that is not after minister post sacrificing its dignity. The worst is the telephone linemen party.

Thakku Mukku Thursday, 11 August 2022 06:26 PM

Even after election no one will get a proper mandate and again a coalition. Again buying MPs and corruption

    Reader Thursday, 11 August 2022 06:36 PM

The bottom line is that the JVP cannot work together with other parties who have different political views. It is their way or the highway. They will always find excuses when called to join hands with others, even if it is the cry and need of the nation in the most desperate of times. Communist's and extreme socialist's thrive on peoples misery as they see it as opportune to ride on it to seize power. Once they seize power they do not relinquish it, as they are not genuine believers of democracy. These fringe parties would have enjoyed to see the shortages and queues continue and increase. Then their cheap slogans would have been seen as the panacea for the people. I think now the sheep's clothing has largely come off the wolves. Hope they would soon be naked to be truly seen by any hitherto deceived people. Lovers of the nation (Dheshapremi) is but a convenient slogan for these groups.

AKD and JVP not willing to provide any useful contribution to the country and again AKD is giving many excuses. Before having an election regular supply of fuel, gas, fertilizer and medicine etc. should be established and if there's an election how many seats JVP could win?

    Power or country?

    Chux Thursday, 11 August 2022 06:45 PM

What do you expect from someone who never contributed to the betterment of the people and the country Instead always selfish approaches

    Sandy Thursday, 11 August 2022 06:53 PM

Engaging in strikes is easy than ruling the country. No need to take any blame or responsibility.

Anne Karunaratne Thursday, 11 August 2022 06:57 PM

Keep away from politics AKD! Everyone knows what the JVP is capable of!!

RONA WIJETILLEKE Thursday, 11 August 2022 07:07 PM

Makes sense. 100% agreed that this is RAJAPAKSE/ WICKREMESINGHE Government. New elections with a practical agenda will be a solution .

    Quolp Thursday, 11 August 2022 07:20 PM

Mind it, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, married to his PUNCHI (maternal Aunt), that, Rajapaksas won the elections in a landslide victory which is recorded in the history as unprecedented. Ranil, won the support of Rajapaksas, not from the loyalist of Rajapaksas. Elections should be conducted according to the constitutional provisions, where Rajapaksas will participate to win the elections as they did before, where, no one can compete Rajapaksas as he will once again win the election. This sudden dramatic changes however became a reality, after the US conspired government formed by Ranil wickremasinghe, thus, for the time being, he is suitable for the Presidency than anyone else. No indecent party could join all party government. so, joining Anura Kumara Disanayaka's participation with Ranil Govt. is out of the question. AKD is well known INDECENT SLUM GUY.

well said , The cunning fox is prolonging the misery of Sri Lanka, If you do not arrest the thieves, criminals you will not move forward as a country. The thieves are back in power with this fox.

Real Opposition Thursday, 11 August 2022 07:50 PM

Bravo, don't bow to Ranil and SLPP group. Too many of the corrupted MPs who where Rajapaksa supporters are amongst them. Long term will only pull down your own chances at increases your MPs.

    Patriot Thursday, 11 August 2022 08:06 PM

An election at this point of time will ruin any remaining hope of recovering from this economic mess. Besides, the masses can only elect those who contest an election, and most of them will be from the current 225 (including AKD). Therefore, the only option now is to support all initiatives to slowly recover.

Mohamed Ifaz Inamdeen Thursday, 11 August 2022 08:17 PM

A rational decision from JVP. Public want accountability and the enforcement of due punishment for the politicians who commit white-collar crimes.

Rani Garusinha Thursday, 11 August 2022 08:32 PM

I was thinking of JVP as an alternative but now……maybe not.Go for a election and see ….people are losing faith……if you go like this you will only be the third force forever

Karalasingam Sivalingam Thursday, 11 August 2022 08:57 PM

Anruakumara, if you are a patriotic parliamentarian, you must consider supporting Ranil, always to be a critic of everyone is not going to help to solve a problem. Ranil, is the best option at the moment. Even if you have an election, Ranil will be the winner, if he wins, do you have a strategy to offer, definitely no, you will be a critic be a critic even afterwards , what is the use.

    Massdeen Thursday, 11 August 2022 09:31 PM

The President should first revoke the State of Emergency first President had already done the damage by the advises of the Rajapakses

Shan Thava Thursday, 11 August 2022 09:47 PM

I see many comments personally attacking JVP and AKD. The message from JVP and AKD are crystal clear. RW is a crook, who suppressed protestors by arresting them, intimidating them etc., bought to power by SLPP that bankrupt the country etc etc. RW still appoints people who were accused of bribery and corruption as ministers. What do the fools expect JVP to do by joining a bunch of thugs, thieves and crooks?

    Bernard Thursday, 11 August 2022 09:50 PM

Even though he is on the run globally, the former ruler is still running the country under the guise of the present ruler with full backing from SLPP for the rest of the present Parliament and the 6.8 million magic number will again work in their favour.

Vajira Jayawardena Thursday, 11 August 2022 11:00 PM

They think they can get the power through early elections. That is a false belief. They should support the current government to address the burning issues and then they can go for an election. They also should request the current government to take action to bring back stolen money. That should be no 1 condition if they are going to support the interim government. Also, no more strikes.

    Neil Friday, 12 August 2022 02:56 AM

Very good decision by JVP. Ranil should laydown a time frame for the all-party government, and a date for the elections. He is playing a double game.

    T. j. Miskin Friday, 12 August 2022 06:17 AM

At the next General election UNP will come to power with a coalition with Sinhalese ,Tamils, Estate Tamils , Catholics, support of Muslims. The JVP not more than 25 seats , Pohottuwa about 55 seats but a new party will emerge and get about 15 to 20 seats.New entrant to Parliament will be actress Damitha Abeyratne.

    Citizen k Friday, 12 August 2022 08:13 AM

After reading AKD's statement I fully agree with him.A small cabinet of ministers representing all parties parties and a general election is the answer. As long as as the majority is one party they will raise their hands for any vote for survival. A convicted criminal is a cabinet minister and ditto a another one described of asking for bribes. Need I say more.

    Surain Friday, 12 August 2022 08:57 AM

Truly agree with Anura K the man who was the pM for 5 times part

Karalasingam Sivalingam Friday, 12 August 2022 09:11 AM

Your speeches are attractive to listen but you have to be a performer as well. Late Phlip Gunewardena was a strong Marxist, but at his latter stages in life, accepted a ministerial position in the UNP government. Wise to perform than criticise.

Nilanthi Wickramasinha Friday, 12 August 2022 07:12 PM

JVP helped bring Mahinda Rajapaksa to power by contesting for the election with them and even sat in Mahinda Rajapaksa cabinet after the famous Helping Hambanthota or Tsunami Fraud
