While stacking more burdens on people, the government is planning to unleash repression when they take to the streets, the All-Island Three-Wheeler Drivers’ Union (AITWDU) said.
Addressing the media AITWDU President Lalith Dharmasekera said it had been nearly two months since he requested the government to increase the fuel quota in addition to what is being allowed for three-wheelers.
So far, no action has been taken by the Power and Energy Ministry or any responsible authority, he said. "Even though the minister promised to increase the fuel quota for three-wheelers, there have been nothing in sight about it" he said.
"The system of issuing fuel under the QR code began on August 1. Every week, from that date onwards, we have kept our fingers crossed and waiting that the government would fulfill its pledge by increasing the fuel quota. But it never happened," he said.
"Now it is clear that the fuel quota for three-wheelers does not change. Instead of solving the issues, the government is trying to stack more burdens on people," Dharmasekera said.
"It looks like the government is expecting another uprising with the participation of three-wheeler drivers. It it highly regrettable that in order to obtain fuel, we need to bribe the petrol shed workers, he lamented. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Well, most of the three wheeler drivers lost a lucrative business selling fuel in black market when QR system was introduced. Their union even refused to acknowledge there was such a thing going on among their members. They never thought about the country or the plight of other people.

Three-wheel drivers need to be supported as business people. They should be entitled to far more fuel that V8 users who does just to go to and from from home to office or otherwise from religious places to wherever.

There are a few matters that needs the ministers attention which to be resolved fairly urgently, including the fuel quota for three wheelers, and the issuance of diesel for standby generators in apartment complexes to enable it to operate critical equipment. For example in relation to the latter, the Divisional Secretariat in Dehiwela which received application forms a long while ago (supposedly to facilitate the issuance of a QR code for same), have not processed the applications as yet as they are said to be still 'waiting on instructions' to process them. We have come a long way from the days of the extremely long queues, but there are a few more matters that need to be resolved expeditiously to bring us closer to normalcy.
