It was decided to prepare a list of suppliers and carry out raids. In addition steps will be taken by the state ministry, Finance Ministry and the Consumer Affairs Authority to see that cement is sold at a fair price.

The State Minister said some of the suppliers are hiding stocks in order to jack up prices. However it was revealed that there was a shortage of 100,000 Metric tons in the market. Total monthly stocks which Sri Lanka needs is 500,000 metric tons.

The price of a 50 kg bag of cement is said to range from Rs.1500 to Rs 1700.(Yohan Perera)

Raids happened in early 1960;s and 1970's too with millions clapping/cheering. That did not solve the lack of US$ or Sterling Pound problem. What it did was to make the problem acute/severe until 1978. No body will invest money if you HORA grab wealth! is it not grab what is in stock and KAPUT after?? Short sighted process
