More than 500 year old Bodhi and the Cheithiya in Getambe temple ground are exposed to the danger of being eroded into the Mahaweli river. Anunayaka of the Sri Lanka Ramanniya Nikaya Ven. Keppitiyaoda Siriwimala Thera said the Bodhi ground and several buildings had developed cracks and were facing the danger of collapsing into the river if protective step were not taken immediately.
The Ven. Thera said the project costing Ra.210 million inaugurated in 2021 to erect a protective wall had been stalled for want of funds. He said the Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs and Mahaweli Development who carried out an inspection recently promised to complete the project. (Shane Seneviratne)

There is limited money, and money printing is jacking up inflation. What is more important the upkeep of temples or overcoming malnutrition in the country. The government's action here will show if they really care about the well being of the many under nourished children or if they want to fund for keeping up grandiose temples.

Commendable, when people think they are all consuming know-alls?! Result of encroachment on River banks, especially such mighty Rivers, the Mahaweli!! Environmental hazard?! No EPA approval was sought or felt needed, because it was a temple, under the purview of the prelate!!! Every action has an equal and opposite reaction!! Now to save this foremost place, get ADB, IBRD, Chinese, or much loathed, western Imperialists’ loan to build Diversion Dam upstream to ensure water does not flow past this sacred place!! Simple Mr Watson!! Sri Lankans would be blessed for this noble act, with more Essentials, Fuel and Food!!

This was a temple, no doubt, of significance on the way to Kandy, which I have attended on my frequent trips to Kandy??!! Simplistic, Venerable and Revered, by many passers-by!! Memory serves me right back in the late 1970's and even 80’s with only a 'Bo Tree', Statue of Lord Buddha and bounded by a wall – a place of sanctity!! How and when did it become such a big site on the Banks of River Mahaweli? Who approved the construction?? Village Bass-Unna?? Cohesion and influence of the corrupt, post 2005 imposters??

The Asgiriya and Malwatte chapters have funds running into millions if not billions of rupees. Why can't they fund the project instead of asking a cash strapped government for help?

If they can kill over 250 worshippers barbaric way on Easter Sunday, this is nothing!!!

It is clear some shoddy passing of construction plans were done when they shouldn't. Maybe MP supported for it. Continuing for funding the wrongful building and construction is doing worse than even the initial work. And there is no need for continued putting good money over the lost money of this temple debacle.
