The Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry has decided to allow only those who have sent significant amount of dollars to the country through legal channels to return back to work abroad.

At an event held at the Labour Ministry yesterday, Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said that the legislation will be enacted immediately considering the above matter, allowing them to go abroad again.

Thirty air tickets were awarded by the Minister during a ceremony at the Labour Ministry to a group of young women for domestic nursing jobs in Israel.

The Minister said that he is working to get the necessary cabinet approval to grant permission to import electric vehicles for those who sent a certain amount of dollars while  working abroad.

It was also stated that tax concessions for shopping at the airport duty-free shops would also be increased. Also permit them to enjoy concessions, including the construction of houses and initiating self-employment.

He emphasized that the concessions would be based on the amount of foreign currencies sent to the country.

"So far, 38 people have been sent under the programme to work as nursing helpers in Israel. "According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Israel, 500 nursing workers are expected to be sent," the Minister said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

I think this law is against the fundamental rights if individuals. This is against the constitution. How can they determine how much dollars for each individual? What kind of stupid person is this? Instead of trying to punish the expats who earn their dollars , go after those who are stealing the dollars in millions and billions every day. You only have to look around left and right to find these thieves.

You mean to say those who haven't sent dollars will not be allowed to go back after their vacations in Sri Lanka? What an idiotic resolution this will be? Are these minsters have any knowledge or experience of the portfolios they manage?

We are so proud that our 2500 year old civilisation sending ‘wage slaves’ to 70 year restored modern Jewish country. Arab Israeli citizens are empowered and successful. Whereas we fear the possible success of our minorities and thus remain underdeveloped.

SL is a bankrupt country and unemployment rate is more therefore people are leaving looking for green pastures leaving their beloved ones.SL economy should not totally depend on their remittances through legal channels. Significant amount of dollars will not shower on their working places to fulfil the looting politicians of SL. The minister's legislation will not solve the problem but it will aggravate the situation further, in different levels

What a garbage from a garbage man. This guy came there to get a Minister post and is now proposing an unthinkable. Does this apply to people who have permanent residency in UK, Australia, US, Canada? They are living there, not just working. Hell will break loose.

Manusha your capacity is evident. You are now punishing these poor people for the inefficiencies of the Govt mechanisms. Whats the point of increasing duty free allowance, that also they will be scammed by the Shop Operates at BIA. Come up with something tangible, long term and Beneficial.

If the minister tell this seriously. Then he is not fit be act on this role. It's individual right to choose where and when to spent. In this case most of the the above ararage earning expects will not come to srilanka. He should implement a scheme where it motivate expects to sent money.
