The 72nd Independence Day celebration was held at the Independence Square in Colombo 07 today showcasing a military parade and a cultural pageant under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and other dignitaries.

The theme of this year’s ceremony was “A Secured Nation - A Prosperous Country’ and the ceremony began with the hoisting of the National Flag at Independence Hall by the President. Pix by Shameera Rajapakse and Kushan Pathiraja

To those criticising the Sinhala national anthem- the end of colonial rule meant that we could speak and sing in Sinhala- in the ONLY COUNTRY where we can do so!
