Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) allowed the Hellfire Music Festival to go ahead at Lotus Tower today with the new name “ Fire’ the Colombo Municipal council (CMC) said today.

The name has been changed following the conditional permission given by the Municipal Commissioner Badrani Jayawardene.

The organizers were asked to shelve the name “Hellfire” as it said to be the name of a Satanic cult.

Municipal Commissioner Badrani Jayawardene in a letter addressed to organizers of the show on the advice of Mayor Rosy Senanayake, had informed them that the name of the show should be changed and it should be held without disrespecting any religion or any form of worship that is accepted and practiced in Sri Lanka.

The Commissioner had advised the organizers to obtain permission from the relevant institutions if liquor is to be sold during the festival while nothing could be done which will have ill effects to the Sri Lankan society.

According to the Commissioner , CMC officers have checked the venue of the show last morning and have found out that changes have been made.

Christian Youth League which staged a protest on Thursday urged the relevant authorities that the objective of the musical show is to promote a satanic cult  a devil worshiping cult) and to ban all such cults in Sri Lanka.(Yohan Perera)

What bullshit. Then why doesn't parliament ban the word Hellfire itself. It just shows the shallow knowledge and quality of Sri Lankans. If there was concert arranged Hitler will it be banned? Do you think all those who attend will follow Hitler's way of life? It is similar to the British Lady who had a tattoo of Lord Buddha due to her true love with such principles, but in Sri Lanka the ignorant fools including the graduate qualified Immigration Officer and Magistrate sent her to remand. This is the quality of Sinhalese.

A set of opposition people were all put to play hell if it was allowed to proceed. Good they changed the name (although the contents will remain same) what a set of opportunists we have?

What an idiotic action. Religion is an absolutely private matter. Anyone can believe in whatever they want, whether they call it God, Satan or whatever. Furthermore, the state has no power to ban any belief. Sri Lanka is a secular country and freedom of belief is protected by the constitution. Next, the Christian Youth League will burn women as witches who have abortions or engage in premarital sex. These Christian fanatics shall burn in Hellfire. For me as an atheist, all religions are charlatanism anyway.

Didn't GOD create the devil (Satan)?

The Christians and other religious groups here are threat to democracy and free expression. Until there is proper free expression allowed like in the US instilled right into the constitution idiots like the protesters will cause problems, and keep trying to pull our country into crisis.

I wish to remind some of the above mention writers that we sri lankan have bad experience in the past regarding yakage Kali or devils worshiping cults in sri Lanka. One incident in the past youth killed both his perants after continues ly playing yakage Kali or Satanic cult music in his room.Deceased was a retired high ranking security officer. This was happens in Kollupitiya some times ago.I propose that school children specially youths must be taught about our social values in our education system.

Kadu Karaya Saturday, 01 October 2022 12:59 PM

It was the Christian groups which cause this unnecessary fuss. To them, anything but their God is satanic. They would for sure say the Devalaya gods/hindu gods are devils worship too.

Kadu Karaya Saturday, 01 October 2022 01:03 PM

@Jayampathi de silva - The 'high ranking security officer' is likely to have supported many atrocities. Many in the North and East would say whomever he is, he is brutal suppressor. If he was alive today he would be having a lavish life with printed money wages or pension. Our whole society is a loss, with the government mandated religious education. Modern western systems do not have time wasting pointless religious education garbage paid for by tax payer or printed money.

Democracy and freedom of expression Saturday, 01 October 2022 01:53 PM

@ Food first religious place last, You are a damn disgrace for human race. You are advocating democracy and freedom of expression while at the sametime condemning Christians and protestors. Weren't/aren't they exercising their freedom of expression and democracy? Hypocrites like you are the very reason why SL is in this predicament and worse they will continue to slide further. You are the type who would stoop low to those in power to achieve your own agenda. The protesters were idiots for electing your cunning, corrupt and criminal master to power. They are not directly responsible for the country's situation but it's your beloved rulers/politicians who are the cause.

freddy foxx Saturday, 01 October 2022 07:54 PM

There is absolutely no need to create a rumpus over the name. Hellfire is not suitable, accepted, so simply change it to something more suitable.

Something is seriously wrong Sunday, 02 October 2022 12:26 AM

Over the past few months SL was often capturing news headlines owing to the political and economic crisis in the country. During this period the value of the currency had dropped much more than half. The monthly inflation spikes are almost double. Country is going begging; yes, even begging from beggers. Millions of people are experiencing unprecedented hardship. There are news clips of increase in prostitution. While a huge population is in difficulty but there are others enjoying life. They are staging musical events to glorofy a structure that was one of the symbols for SL's current predicament. SLns do all the wrong things and expect the right results. Something is seriously wrong with Democratic Sri Lankans.
