Former Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam today was responding to Director General, Department of Archeology Prof. Senarath Dissanayake that he inflicted undue influence on the former to demolish the Assembly hall of King Buwanekabahu in Kurunegala to construct a hotel and said the latter should prove it before end of elections.
Mr. Kariyawasam told at a press conference that Director General Archeology Department should put out the audio clip which he claims to be holding.
"I would like to request the Director General to put out the audio clip and prove his allegation before the general election" Mr Kariyawasam said.
" If I was keen to get the clearance for the hotel, I would have got it done during the time when Prof. Mandawala was hoping the post of Director General Archeology Department. Also it was not me who had interdicted Dr. Dissanayake, as an action was taken against him by the Public Service Commission" he added.
Mr. Kariyawasam said he intends to take legal action against the Director General for making false allegations. “It is because of some corrupt officers, valuable artefacts are being destroyed,” Mr. Kariyawasam added.(Yohan Perera)
