An investigation should be conducted to ascertain as to how the details of the statement given by the university student, who killed a fellow female student of Colombo University recently, was released to the media, SJB MP Rohana Bandara said yesterday.
He told Parliament that if highly sensitive and confidential information such as statements and confessions given by the suspects to the police were released to the media, it was a serious situation.
MP Bandara said the matter is before the court now and releasing such confidential information would pose a hindrance to the legal proceedings.
He requested the Speaker to refer the matter to the Public Security Minister so as to ensure that sensitive information at the hands of police, is not released to external parties.
