Former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen visited the CID office at Irattaperiyakulam in Vavuniya yesterday and gave a statement for five hours, in connection with investigations regarding the supply of of raw materials to the copper factory owned by an Easter Sunday suicide bomber.
The former Minister’s statement was recorded by the CID officers at the Irattaperiyakulam from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. yesterday. The Minister has visited this CID office in accordance with the magisterial order made by the Fort Magistrate to record the statement from Mr. Bathiudeen without hampering his election activities. The Fort Magistrate has made this order after hearing the submissions made by the Attorneys of Mr. Bathiudeen requesting that a date following the elections be announced for him to make this statement. The Magistrate after considering these submissions had ordered the CID to visit the Vavuniya branch of the CID and record this statement.
A large crowd of supporters of Mr. Bathiudeen were seen outside the Irattaperiyakulam police office remaining for several hours until recording was over.
