A one-on-one meeting between UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and opposition leader Sajith Premadasa ended in failure on Wednesday exacerbating the internal party crisis, the Daily Mirror learns.
The two leaders sat together to discuss a way out of the crisis.
More than 50 MPs of the UNP’s 71-member parliamentary group insist on the appointment of Mr. Premadasa as the UNP leader ahead of the snap general elections. However, inside sources of the party said Mr. Wickremesinghe did not agree to offer the party leadership to Mr. Premadasa during his meeting with him.

Ranil should stand firm until a fit and proper candidate with leadership qualities emerges within UNP as none so apparent at this moment
