Special guidelines are to be issued, soon after the island-wide travel restrictions in force is lifted at 4 a.m. on Monday (14), Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said yesterday.
He said no decision had been taken to extend the travel restrictions beyond June 14 and it was expected to lift the ongoing travel restrictions on Monday.
“ Health and other stakeholders will discuss to introduce new guidelines as to how to implement various restrictions including provincial travel restrictions, once the restrictions are lifted,” General Silva said.
He said the guidelines will include the functioning of institutions, public transportations and other essential services adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.
The Commander said the public will be notified of the guidelines prior to lifting the travel restrictions.
General Silva also urged the public not to be deceived by rumours circulating on social media about the travel restrictions.
The travel restriction similar to a curfew was imposed last month to prevent people from leaving their homes while only essential services were allowed to travel on the roads.
