The Government proposal to appoint veteran singer Rohana Beddage as the new Sri Lankan ambassador to the Maldives was approved by the Committee on High Posts yesterday.
He was called to its meeting held in Parliament yesterday under the Chairmanship of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
Former Ministers Rauff Hakeem and John Amaratunga and MPs D. Siddharthan, Eran Wickramaratne and M.A. Sumanthiran were also present at the meeting.
The Parliamentary Committee on High Posts in a paper advertisement on February 11 said it wished to examine the suitability of appointing Mr. Beddage as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Maldives.
It had requested any organisation or individual desirous of making representations with regard to the relevant nomination to send duly signed written memorandums under registered cover to the Secretary, Committee on High Posts, Committee Office, Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sri Jayawardenapura, Kotte on or before February 25, 2020.
