Government will allow burial of those who succumb to COVID-19, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa informed Parliament yesterday.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa was responding to a query made by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP S.M. Marikkar in the House last morning.
“Mr. Marikkar we will allow the burial of those who succumb to COVID-19,” the Premier said. Mr. Marikkar earlier questioned the Government’s stand on the last rights of those who die of COVID-19.
Mr. Marikkar then thanked the Prime Minister for taking this decision.
Sri Lanka’s Muslim community has been lobbying for permission to bury those who succumb to COVID-19, since the pandemic hit the country.
