The Editors Guild of Sri Lanka requested Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardane in writing to work out a formal mechanism to inoculate media personnel against Covid-19 without delay.
The Guild, in a letter addressed to Dr. Gunawardane, asked for Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines to be given to the journalists.
The letter signed by its President Siri Ranasinghe and Secretary Sisira Paranatanthri said electronic and print media personnel acted with dedicated commitment to protect people from the pandemic right after its initial breakout in the country in March last year, despite the risk involved to their lives.
They said in the letter that, in addition to the staff journalists, provincial correspondents scattered across the country, carried out their duties regardless of any risk.
