The COVID-19 case in Gampaha makes it clear that the country had not been cleared of the disease yet and the situation could be considered as serious, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said yesterday.
“We are saddened about the relaxing of health precautions,” Mr. Wijewardene said in a statement. “Government’s decision to neglect WHO advice could give rise to a major health crisis. It is the government that should accept the responsibility for the situation that had arisen as a result of forgetting social distancing practices that was enforced earlier,” he added. “The US President who is considered as the most powerful person in the world had fallen a victim of COVID- 19 while the deaths in India had exceeded a hundred thousand. The priority should be given to the health of Sri Lankan population in such a situation while attention should also be made on the economy.
