A total of 508 out of the 772 COVID-19 cases reported within the 24-hour period were identified in the Western Province, out of which more than 200 patients were detected in the Colombo and Gampaha Districts.
Accordingly, 245 cases have been reported in the Colombo District on Sunday and 214 cases in the Gampaha District. Besides, 49 cases were reported in the Kalutara District bringing the total of the second wave of infection in the Western Province since October 4, 2020 to 44,947.
Among the majority of cases that were identified in Colombo yesterday were, 25 from Colombo Fort, 22 from Borella, 17 from Wellampitiya.
Among the highest cases reported in the Gampaha district were, 51 from Minuwangoda, 27 from Nittambuwa and 26 from Kadawatha.
Meanwhile, several areas in Borella were relieved from isolation yesterday, despite the large number of patients reported from that area.
Though the COVID-19 cases in the Western Province continue to rise, only two Grama Niladari Divisions in Colombo, and seven each in Gampaha and Kalutara remain under isolation.
Meanwhile, 15,746 PCR tests have been carried out on Sunday bringing the total number of tests conducted in the country since October 4, 2020 to 1,504,962.
