‘14-day quarantine period will not be reduced’

• Releasing patients from treatment centres after 10-days is a different story

The health authorities yesterday ruled out the possibility of reducing the 14-day quarantine period determined for people exposed or possibly exposed to Covid-19 patients.

Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath told a news conference that a person who tests positive is released from his treatment centre after ten days.

“A person tests positive for the disease after the virus load of   his body reaches a certain level. By the time he tests positive, he might have contracted the virus for at least for two days. Afterwards, his virus load peaks after five days and starts declining making him someone not contagious,” he said.
