A team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) consisting six officers led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been appointed to inquire into the controversial statement made by former Western Province Governor Azath Salley.
Recently, Salley had allegedly said that he was not willing to respect the law of the land but only honour and welcome the Islamic Sharia law.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said several complaints had received to the CID requesting to probe over the controversial statement.
He said the complainants have claimed that there would be disharmony among religious and ethnic groups due to the content of Salley’s statement.
Meanwhile, the Cinnamon Gardens Police on Saturday night recorded a statement from Azath Salley on this.
