Though some areas in Colombo are placed under isolation for a longer period of time, the health authorities are still unable to revoke the isolation status since there is risk of more COVID-19 sub-cluster proliferation, Police said.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that COVID-19 cases are still emerging from those areas.
He requested the public living in the isolated areas, especially in the Colombo city, to strictly adhere to quarantine rules and regulations and continue with the health guidelines, at least for a period of one week.
“The health authorities will take a decision by analysing the proliferation of COVID-19 positive patients in the isolated areas,” he said.
Grandpass, Wolfendhal Street, Maligawatta, Dematagoda, Kotahena, Avissawella Police areas in the Colombo District, Ruwanwella in Kegalle District, Kattankudy in the Batticaloa District and several Grama Niladhari Divisions across the country are currently placed under isolation. The isolation of NHS housing complex in Maligawatte was lifted yesterday. In addition, the Police Media Spokesman said, 23 persons have been arrested for not wearing face masks and failure to maintain social distancing within the 24 hours that ended last morning.
A total number of 2,098 persons have been arrested for having violated quarantine regulations up to date.
