Several parties briefed the media on the vote to be taken after the Parliamentary debate on the agreement reached with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) this evening.
The Freedom People's Congress has decided to vote against the government's agreement with the IMF, MP G. L. Peiris said.
“The IMF final agreement was finalized on March 20. There is no opportunity for amendments now and there is no practicality in consulting views of Parliamentarians at this point. We have to reject this as there is no honesty in the government's actions," Peiris said.
Meanwhile Leader of the Democratic Left Front MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara said his group would also vote against the IMF agreement, although he believes many would vote in favour of the agreement.
MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said the 43 Brigade has decided to abstain from voting, as their group has no faith in the government.
Lie down and enjoy Wednesday, 07 June 2023 08:44 AM
Late Ferdinand Marcos - one time President once said, "If you cannot escape rape, lie down and enjoy." Same goes to SL Parliament who cannot do anything to change the IMF agreement. Just lie down and enjoy instead of trying to be cardboard heroes.
