Murali, Karthik and Gayle hoping for an India-Pakistan World Cup final

As anticipation for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup intensifies, cricket pundits from across the globe are collaboratively engaging in discussions to forecast the tournament's potential winners and underdogs.

India and Pakistan will be squaring off against each other in Ahmedabad on October 14. However, former cricketers like Dinesh Karthik, Chris Gayle, and Muttiah Muralitharan are hoping for the arch-rivals to meet in the final of the ICC World Cup as well.

"Hopefully it will be an India, Pakistan final," Gayle said in a recent interaction with Star Sports.

"I’d love to have India and Pakistan [in the final]," Muralitharan said.

"I would love to see an India, Pakistan final," Karthik said.

However, adding an unexpected twist to the predictions, former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis diverged from the India-Pakistan final narrative. Instead, he named defending champions England and the host nation India as his anticipated finalists.

The tournament is set to kick off on October 5, with the final match to take place in Ahmedabad on November 19. (CP)

Muralitharan, Sri Lanka gave him the opportunity and all help to develop his natural talent and become a great cricketer. But his loyalty is always to India. The upcountry Indian Tamils who were brought to Sri Lanka as uneducated labourers by the British to be used for British economic interests should have been completely removed from our country and sent back to India as soon as British left. We have plenty of unemployed labourers who could take over the “ tea leaf picking “, we don’t want them in our country. Ask the police in Colombo , for their population disproportionate of hardened criminals in Colombo are Upcountry Indian Tamils.

Murali`s preference just like Chis Gayle`s to see India and Pakistan in the final is from his expertise as a world-famous Cricketer considering the reality of current Indian and Pakistan team strengths and not at all due to any twisted Loyalty to India like @Premadasa`s racist comments suggest. Mulari was given the stage to play for Sri Lanka because he was a Sri Lankan Cricketer at his best and not because of any other reason. Reality and loyalty are two different things.

Shocking to see comments based on racial degradation. We are talking big of ourselves when we are lotus eaters who do not know the reasons why firstly our lazy countrymen who did not want to work on the estates and thats why the British brought Indian Tamils to the country who are hard working and have done a yeoman service bringing in the much needed dollars since they arrived living in squalid conditions in LINES with meagre payment as emoluments and still there lot has remained the same with a few exceptions whilst the majority were wanting white collar jobs and still continue to get into government service where from morning to evening they are doing nothing but shirking, Look at our country which has fallen to the rock bottom in bankcruptcy only we have TALKERS AND NOT DOERS but try to bring racial disharmony. So how can this country PROSPER with people showing purity from the OUTSIDE WEARING WHITE CLOTHES but their hearts are full of wickedness and hypocrisy!

India has better chances because they are playing on home soil, have a strong batting lineup as usual, and a stronger bowling staff than in the past. Pakistan, on the other hand, does not currently appear to have any advantages. Can't undermine Australia they could come up with new winning formula. Despite Arjuna's politicized remarks, we should acknowledge that the Sri Lankan squad isn't much stronger than it was in earlier world cups.
