Fisherman should be educated not to catch endangered spices like the whale sharks. this is really disappointing .even a small kid who goes to school knows the spices but not the Fishermen.
Labby Thursday, 06 December 2012 06:35 AM
What are they all staring at that poor creature for? If it's still alive put it back into the sea, I say.

This appears tobe a harmless whale shark. They are one of the largest fish species in the sea. They pose no threat to humans, they are plankton eaters.

Whale shark is the largest fish in the earth. Are we eating this rare creature

This species is vulnerable to extinction and therefore protected under two international agreements: Convention on migratory species and Convention on International trade in Wild animals (CITES). Although Sri Lanka is signatory to both of them, sadly locally we are not protecting them. This is indeed a sad situation needing immediate attention

Very Surprising that the fishermen didn't know a whale Shark. One of the most beautiful creatures. Diving with them is bliss.
