Special train from Kandy to Ella launched

The Sri Lanka Railways on Saturday commenced a special train for local and foreign tourists from Kandy to Ella.The train will depart Kandy at 7:00 AM and reach the Demodara Railway Station at 2:20 PM on a daily basis. The return journey will commence at 3:40 PM from the Demodara Station and reach Kandy at 9:35 PM.

The train is named “Ella ODESSEY” and comprised with 176 air conditioned first class seats, 144 second class seats and a restaurant.

The train will stops at stations with tourist attraction locations such as St. Clair’s water falls, Grate Western station, Elgin Fall, Summit, Tunnel no 18, Idalgashinna station. 7 Arch Bridge, Demodara Tunnel and bridge. Pix by Kithsiri de Mel

Happy that such a service is launched, and sad about people who commented ahead. Who said it has no AC? When did you last travel on a Sri Lankan special or express train? Do you know 1st class is as good as any train in the world, except for speed? Why do you say it is not commercially viable? Have you at least observed the number of tourists waiting in Kandy to get into upcountry trains, but end up travelling 3rd class as reservations are difficult owing to limited capacity?
